Windows Phone 8 （一般简称为 “WP8” 或 “WP8.0”） 是微软在 2012 年发布的基于 Windows NT 6.2 内核的 Windows 移动操作系统， 也是 Windows Phone 手机操作系统系列的第二个大版本， 这一手机操作系统首次在 2012 年 6 月 20 日由微软举办的 Windows Phone 峰会上首次亮相。

其手机操作系统的内核首次采用了与 Windows 8 客户端及工作站操作系统相同的 Windows NT 内核， 这意味着它完全抛弃了 Windows Phone 7.x 手机操作系统世代甚至是更早的 Windows Mobile 手机操作系统世代盛行的 Windows CE 内核， 同时在这一代的 “开始” 屏幕进行了更新且优化了锁屏界面， 推出了聊天室等重要的新功能。

2018 年 2 月 20 日， 微软宣布关闭 Windows Phone 7.5 手机操作系统和 Windows Phone 8 手机操作系统的通知推送服务。[1]

2018 年 10 月 31 日， 微软停止接收 Windows Phone 8.x 手机操作系统平台的新应用提交， 而现有的应用更新支持将会维持到 2019 年 7 月 1 日。

2019 年 7 月 1 日， 微软停止了 Windows Phone 8.x 手机操作系统平台的应用更新支持， 这代表着运行 Windows Phone 8 手机操作系统的设备此后无法更新应用。[2]
