内核的 Windows 客户端操作系统， 本质上是为搭载 ARMv7 架构系统级芯片的轻薄翻转笔记本或二合一平板电脑这类移动设备而量身定做的 [[OS:Windows 8|Windows 8 客户端及工作站操作系统]]。 这一操作系统首次在 2011 年 1 月 6 月至 2011 年 1 月 9 日期间在美国内华达州克拉克县拉斯维加斯市举办的国际消费电子展上亮相， 并最终于 2012 年 10 月 26 日这天与 Windows 8 客户端及工作站操作系统一齐上市， 同时发布了三款基于 Windows RT 客户端操作系统而开发的的设备， 例如： * 微软 Surface RT 二合一平板电脑。 * 戴尔 XPS 10 轻薄翻转笔记本电脑。 * 联想 ideapad Yoga 11 轻薄翻转笔记本电脑。 Windows RT 只能预装在新出厂的 OEM 设备上。 该系统适用于电池续航时间长、 针对旅途多移动场景而设计且搭载 ARMv7 架构系统级芯片的轻薄翻转笔记本电脑或二合一平板电脑这类移动设备。 ==新功能与特性== * Metro UI 用户界面 Windows RT 客户端操作系统的用户界面采用独具特色的 “Metro UI” 这一扁平化的新设计的界面。 在系统发布之后， 经多家数码科技媒体的评测表明全新的 “Metro UI” 界面使用体验非常流畅， 界面之间炫酷的切换效果能给使用者带来舒适又愉悦的感官反馈； 同时这一新设计的界面采用了与之前完全不同的界面风格和设计元素， 不得不说给当时相对沉闷的消费电子市场注入了新的活力。 最难能可贵的是其系统卓越的系统优化使得在即使不是性能很强大的硬件平台上， 这种流畅舒适的体验同样不打折扣。 在采用这套全新用户界面的同时， 同样照顾到了传统个人电脑用户的使用感受。 它既保留了传统的桌面界面， 也突出了即便在不开启 “用户模式代码完整性” 这一功能的前提下能够桌面上运行的软件但也仅限内置于系统中的[[文件资源管理器]]、 [[Internet Explorer|Internet Explorer 10 浏览器]]、 [[远程控制]]和 [[Office 2013|Office 2013 RT 办公套件]]等应用程序， 但是这种操作还是得到了继承与保留。 * 整合应用开发 尽管微软进入平板电脑市场的时间晚于其他市场竞争对手， 而竞争对手 （如谷歌和苹果） 已经在构建软件生态系统方面领先于微软， 但是微软在开发 Windows RT 客户端操作系统时便意识到了这一点； 着力强调了基于 ARM 体系架构的 Windows RT 客户端操作系统与基于 x86 体系架构或 x64 体系架构的 Windows 8 客户端及工作站操作系统和手机上的 [[OS:Windows Phone 8|Windows Phone 8 移动操作系统]]之间的软件开发整合。 考虑这些操作系统到共用系统内核的情况以及 API 接口高度一致的情况， 因此对于 Windows 8 开发者而言仅需要较少的改动或者甚至不需要明显的改动， 即可通过在 Visual Studio 2012 开发工具软件中选择不同编译器的方式， 把已经开发在 Windows 8 上的基于
